This past Sunday was the introduction into our study of 1 John. Our elderly disciple/lover of Jesus listed four reasons as to why he wrote this letter to believers:
1. Ch. 1 vs 4 "We write this to make our joy
complete." He proclaimed Jesus, "the Word of
life", who has appeared and John saw Him, listened to Him, touched Him.
Through Jesus, we have fellowship with the Father and the Son, and with
each other. That my friends, is where the fullness of joy is found!!!
2. Ch. 2 vs 1 "My dear children, I write this to
you so that you will not sin." Wait a minute, what does this
mean - is he saying that we won't sin anymore? Come on Sunday and we will
look at that question. By the way, you have to love the rest of the verse
that says "But if anybody does sin, we have one who speaks to the
Father in our defense - Jesus Christ, the Righteous one."
3. Ch. 2 vs 26 "I am writing these things
to you about those who are trying to lead you astray." More
about the false teachers. Remember - Peter wrote about them, so did Paul
and Jesus gave warning as well. It is important because there are still
false teachers today.
4. Ch 5 vs 13 "I write these things to you
who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have
eternal life." Not guess, not hope, not figure - but KNOW
that you have eternal life. Praise the Lord for that!!!
As for what's coming this Sunday - reread reason #2. God
bless you and see you then.
In Christ's love,
Pastor John
